Tactile Shimmer
Sparkling Edge
The piece visualizes the movement of light against a dark winter night on a fabric drape. It offers a modern interpretation of the traditional temple borders of Indian sarees. The complementary weft extends beyond the warp, creating a dynamic fringed selvedge that enhances the fabric's texture and evokes a sense of motion.
Gleamy Strokes
A handwoven fabric, featuring a richly textured ground, reimagines the traditional extra-weft technique in an abstract design. Gleaming silk wefts recreates streaks of sharp light cuing through velvety darkness. Bright purple accents emerge unexpectedly against turquoise streaks, capturing the serendipitous beauty of light in motion.
Light Trail
This piece combines foil printing and handweaving; to interpret the fleeting beauty of a dramatic light painting. Shiny foil-printed yarns translate streaks of light into the fabric, blending seamlessly with the weave. The foil's interplay with the texture recreates the dynamic intensity of light trails.
Glistening Marks
With a quirky rendition of traditional weaving techniques like Jamdani and cut-work, this piece captures the image of moving lights on fine silk fabric. Coarse textured yarns are woven as complementary wefts, contrasting with the delicate silk ground, while foil printing adds a gradient gloss that brings the light painting motifs to life.
Back to Nature
A series of delicate handwoven fabrics explores our connection to nature through the sense of touch, using textiles as a gateway to the sensory experience. By experimenting with natural materials like hemp, jute, silk, linen, and wool, it stimulates the tactile senses. The series draws inspiration from nature’s intricate interlacements, like sea fans, cocoons, and leaves, to rekindle our bond with nature.
